Hello, I’m Victoria - founder of About This Place.Back in 2018, I saw a gap in the market for something that freelance hairstylists like me had always needed but never before had access to: a simple, flexible way to
rent a chair in a salon without long-term commitments or costly overheads.
It all started with friends of mine; talented hairdressers who lived abroad but still had clients here in London. They didn’t need a permanent salon. They just needed somewhere professional for a day or two at a time. That’s when I thought: why not create a space that gave hairstylists everything they need, without any contracts?
From Two Chairs... to Three Studios! At first, it was just two chairs. But the demand grew quickly! Freelance hairdressers loved the concept of being able to
rent a chair for 24 hours and keep all of their profits.
Today, About This Place has three private studios in the heart of Soho. Each one is designed for freelance hairdressers who want the professionalism of a salon – without the stress of running one.
Why I StartedHaving worked in the hair industry for over 35 years, I know first-hand the challenges hairstylists face. From high chair rental costs to packed days, it often feels like the system works against us.
When I first opened the studios, I hadn’t worked in Soho for a few years, but it immediately felt like coming home. That feeling – of belonging, of having a base – is what I wanted to give other freelancers too.
The Missing Link for Freelance HairdressersI believe About This Place is that missing link. For hairstylists who don’t need a space all the time, but still want to work in a professional, central London salon – this is for you.
My concept is simple:- Rent a chair in a salon for a day
- Bring your clients
- Keep 100% of your profits
It’s freedom – for your work, and for your life.
Come and See for YourselfI’m so happy you’re here. If you’ve been looking for a flexible way to work, I’d love for you to come and experience it for yourself.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch – I’d be delighted to help.
